Anyone know of free/decent video editing software?

Perhaps not quite the answer you were looking for, but if you install Linux of some sort there's TONS of free software. You can just install the new OS on a separate partition on your hard drive.

I've used the Freemake Video Converter to edit vids for uploading to You Tube. It worked well enough for my purposes; just had to play around with it a bit to get familiar.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll try it. My brother is a big Linux fan.

I'm guessing you're a Windows user now... perhaps Win 7? If so, you should try Linux Mint "petra". it will look familliar.
